She’s always there when you need her, solves all of your problems, loves you unconditionally, and she often does it all without so much as a thank you. When Mother’s Day comes around, it’s high time you show some serious appreciation for your mom and all the other supportive, loving women in your life, including our Mother Earth! Here are our favorite, eco-friendly ways to celebrate all the moms and our planet.
- Mother’s Day comes at the perfect time of year for planting. Gift your mom (and Mother Earth) a tiny tree that the two of you can plant together. Trees reduce CO2 from the atmosphere, cool the planet, provide shade for all and homes for animals. Your mom will love the sentiment and she’ll be reminded of you as she watches the sapling mature.
- Create an at-home spa day for your mom or wife. Put together a package of homemade body scrub (combine equal parts coconut oil and kosher salt until you get a paste-like consistency, then add her favorite essential oil for scent – lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, vetiver, frankincense etc.), a relaxing face mask made from organic ingredients, a natural sponge and a set of sweet-smelling aromatherapy bath salts you can make yourself (you’ll need two parts Epsom salt, two parts kosher salt, one part baking soda + essential oils).
- Make mom a meal! You probably couldn’t count (even if you tried) how many meals your mom (or wife) has prepared for you over the years. Step up your childhood breakfast-in-bed game and create a truly delicious culinary experience for the special lady in your life. Source local ingredients from your neighborhood farmer’s market to keep the experience green.
- If your mother is the woman who has everything (or is particularly difficult to shop for), give her the gift of terrapass carbon offsets, which support emission reduction projects across the United States. For every 1,000 pounds of carbon offsets you gift to your mother, you’ll be taking the equivalent of 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide out of Mother Nature’s atmosphere.
