This badge has expired. Grameen Foundation has not sponsored a carbon reduction in the current year. Carbon dioxide emissions, the principal cause of global warming, are an inevitable consequence of energy use. Every time an individual or organization uses electricity for lighting, fuel for transport, etc., additional carbon emissions are released into the atmosphere. Grameen Foundation has partnered with TerraPass to sponsor clean energy and carbon reduction projects that result in a verified, measurable reduction in carbon emissions.
Grameen Foundation emissions reductions2008: 403 metric tons of CO2 reduced About Grameen FoundationGrameen Foundation (GF) supports microfinance, commonly known as banking for the poor. Microfinance provides small loans, savings, and other financial services so poor people can launch businesses. As an entrepreneur's business grows, so does her self-esteem, her family's well-being, and jobs in her community. GF was founded in 1997 by individuals inspired by Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank, Nobel Peace Prize laureates. GF provides local organizations with financing, technology and training so they can follow in Grameen Bank's footsteps. These organizations, GF's partners, serve millions across Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. |
