Ford has partnered with TerraPass to bring you Greener Miles, an easy, affordable way to balance out your climate impact. Carbon offsets, the innovation that underlies the Greener Miles program, hold promise as a tool to manage greenhouse gas emissions, along with conservation and more fuel-efficient technologies.
For example, Ford uses carbon offsets to balance the emissions created from the manufacture of its hybrid vehicles. Efficient manufacturing processes are the starting point. Carbon offsets then balance out the remaining climate impact.
Carbon offsets and related emissions trading programs have been embraced by over 160 nations; by numerous state governments in the U.S.; by forward-looking companies such as Whole Foods, Starbucks, and others; and by environmental advocacy groups such as Environmental Defense and individual chapters of the Sierra Club.
By making this product available to its customers, Ford hopes to grow awareness about the climate impact of driving and provide new options to environmentally-conscious drivers. Ford derives no revenue from the Greener Miles program.
An innovator in the sale of carbon offsets, TerraPass will use the partnership to spread its message of positive, direct action against climate change. Through their purchases, TerraPass members support renewable energy projects and help to establish a market for alternatives to fossil fuel, such as wind energy and biomass.
