The University of Maryland’s Climate Action Plan includes over 40 strategies for how the campus will work toward carbon neutrality by 2050.The campus reduced its emissions by 10.5 percent between 2005 and 2009. Other sustainability initiatives include gardens on the roof of the Diner constructed by students and growing produce in compost from campus dining operations. Bagasse and other biodegradable products have replaced polystyrene foam containers in Dining Services’ facilities. All pre- and post-consumer food waste in resident dining halls is composted.
