350.org launchesGroup aims to rally a global grassroots movement around an aggressive goal. Plus a cool video!Last week saw the launch of 350.org, Bill McKibben’s new project to rally a worldwide movement around the goal of rolling back carbon levels in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million (they currently stand at about 385 ppm). The project has produced this nifty 90-second video, which summarizes its mission without using any words, so that it remains accessible to all the world’s citizens. Check it out: Comments

Point of information: The video is about reducing CO2 concentrations to 350 ppm, black carbon is a constituent of particulate matter, and should also be reduced as it also serves to warm the climate through a variety of effects. Like CO2, black carbon also comes from combustion processes (think diesel soot and wood burning), but your text should be edited to accurately state that the goal of the video is reducing CO2 not black carbon.

Has anyone ever calculated the "carbon footprint" Terrapass and other like companies leave when the sell 99% of their green products from China that takes fuel to ship cargo over the Pacific? Do they also realize everything that is made out of plastic (that they sell) is petroleum based?? Very curious!

Lori, what do you have against terrapass??? It is people like you that make the general public think that you have to be some sort of eco-nazi to want to help the environment. And by the way, I just purchased a Evolve Roadrunner low-flow showerhead from terrapass which is from a company in AZ and it was shipped in a nice cardboard box, not plastic, and I plan on re-using the box. In addition it had bio-degradable packing peanuts, not the styrofoam ones. Quit being a pain, and thank terrapass for trying to do a service to help this messed up planet!

I love the ideas TerraPass is creating and showing us that exist. I tried to buy the new lightbulbs the other day and found out they are all made in China, none are made in the US. I am torn about the situation. We need to MAKE more things in the US in a green manner so we can buy less from China and other heavy polluters.

@Janet: I kind of see where you are coming from, but shipping emissions are very efficient, and installing CFLs, no matter where they are made is a big win for the environment.
That's not to say we shouldn't figure out how to lower emissions all around the world, but when it comes to energy saving goods, just get them installed and start saving energy.
