Scangauge II, 08/27/2008
Reviewer: John R. (Woodstock , Va.)
Installed the gauge about a month ago and really like it . It's a pleasure to be able to keep an eye on all the different parameters while driving . I know it has improved my overall MPG .
Still have to tweek the calibration a bit between fill ups in order to be closer to the computed MPG ( mileage divided by number of gallons ) Thanks again.

Car installed on - 2007 Civic 2dr 5 speed
This thing is great. The installation is one simple connection with no additional wiring at all. You can also change the display glow color. Be sure to set engine size and tank size also as your setting it up.
It is very eye opening to have MPG numbers right in front of you as your driving. Getting this made me drive more efficiently. I have consistently gotten 40-43 MPG now with my civic in a some highway, some city drive (about 50-50). If I don’t drive efficiently it will drop significantly. I just use sane and simple techniques like taking it out of gear when going down a hill, coasting up to redlights, downshifting to slow down when possible, and not stomping the gas when accelerating. Also as your stopped you can see the mpg drop on the trip computer so it accounts for that also.
A cool feature with the trip computer is that it will give you fuel cost, avg mpg, gallons used, max speed, and min speed for the current trip (from when you last started the car), current day, previous day, and tank.
There is also an ability to add an instantaneous horsepower gauge to the other standard gauges on it. There are also many other great features of this thing too.
Overall it is a great addition and will probably pay for itself in gas saved at some point.

Makes you very aware of your car's behavior, 08/26/2008

With the variety of gauges that you can enable for your car with a ScanGauge, you become very aware of the behavior and performance of your car or truck under varying conditions. The device was easy to install and easy to set up. It's very informative to see not only the usual gauge info but much more than is available on even the most sophisticated car's data display. For example, I have a custom gauge enabled that shows horsepower in real time. Various user group web sites have programing information for gauges for individual models of cars and trucks.
I can also use the mileage display for keeping track of trip mileage for business during the day.
Overall, I think the ScanGuage is a good value for both the gear-head and the eco-head.

Amazing Product, 08/26/2008

I purchased the ScanGuage 2 for my 06 Chevy Aveo 5. I had already been driving economically, however I wanted to increase efficiency. By using the ScanGuage, I have increased efficiency by on average 6 MPG. I have a 25 mile one-way commute to work and this device has helped me to use around 1.5 gallons of gas for my commute. The product is easy to use and easy to set-up, read the manual, it gives you all the information you need to setup the device properly. I highly recommend this device for anyone desiring to increase their efficiency and lower our carbon footprint.

I recommend the ScanGuageII to anyone even remotely considering a purchase. This is a simple to install component that every car should have. I love all the info that it supplies. GET ONE TODAY, you'll love it!

Probably not actually worth it, but a cool toy, 08/26/2008

I too already drove fairly economically (29 mpg overall with a manual 2002 Hyundai Accent), and I was kind of jealous of my brother's VW Passat that has the onboard real time mileage computer. And between using the scanguage and reading about hypermiling techniques, I seem to have imporved my mileage up to 38 mpg on my last gas tank. I am assuming that won't last, and even still, the improved mileage wouldn't cover the cost of the scan guage for a few years. But I do enjoy the braggung rights, and even doing my part for the environment.

ScanGaugeII car computer, 08/26/2008

The ScanGuageII does everything advertised. However, the features are a little bit overkill for my basic needs. Installation was simple and only took a few minutes. The ScanGaugeII should include a cable connector on the left side of the unit instead of just the rear and right side. I wasn't able to find a suitable mount point in conjunction with my TomTom GPS. The data cable was always in the way so I only use the GPS. It would be nice if the TomTom included the basic features of the ScangaugeII as a single unit.
Overall, the ScanguageII is perfect for hardcore car tech junkies. Had I been familar with the ODBII connector cable sooner, I would've forgone purchasing the ScanguageII and just connected the cable directly to my laptop.

Hard to navigate while driving, 08/26/2008
Reviewer: Mike Sleight (Galloway, NJ)
I visualized the unit as larger before purchase. Tough to see and set in motion--a GPS is easier for me. Can't find gas price element easily, and you know how often that changes radically these days.
Why should the current trip reset to zero if you stop in a store for a while?? I detest that.
