This is a great and informative product! We purchased it about 2-3 years ago from TerraPass along with the SmartStrip for our computer. My father-in-law has this now and so it's getting good useage and I'll probably take it with me when I visit my folks (since I'm from a big family).
It's pretty interesting to see how much energy each appliance actually uses and to try to find ways to reduce the useage throughout the house. It's a nice tool to explain to kids (and grown ups) about how much energy is being used on a lamp with an incandescent bulb and then replace the bulb with a CFL and check the wattage useage.

Great item, easy to use, highly recommend, 02/04/2009

This is a great product & is priced right. Just plug it into an outlet & plug in an appliance to see how much energy something is using. Perfect for an energy audit.
The great thing is, you can press any button one-after-the-other to see all categories.
The buttons are (from left to right): Volts, Amps, Watts, Hz, KWH.
A great benefit of this device is that you can see what something uses (like a computer printer) in:
1. Off, but plugged in
2. Plugged in & in standby
3. Or actually in use
I thought my computer modem would save energy by pressing the button on top to disconnect the internet connection & have the lights go off. Nope, I was wrong, the same amount of power is used.
I found out my computer printer, that is an energy star model, doesn't use power when it is plugged in & turned off. There was also a difference between Standby & when it was printing. I turn off the printer when not in use, but don't have to unplug it - since it doesn't use power when it is off.
I recommend this item for anyone needing a more detailed energy usage for
1. Something plugged in, but not turned on.
2. Something in standby or energy saver mode.
3. Something plugged in & is in use.
Max Voltage: 125VAC 50/60HZ
Max Current: 15A
Max Power: 1875VA
Great for the novice or more technical person.
